The NBHD
Hey. It's been a while.
The past few months have been a mosaic of emotions. A whirlpool of stress and joy and noise and peace and friendships and individuality, and so much growing. And polysyndetons (my first poetry book "Polysyndeton" will be out soon so be on the look out for that).
Softcore by The Neighbourhood
A song that has kept me grounded throughout my junior year, and that I am pleased to say is one of my favorite songs of all time, is one that I write to you about today.
Despite the soothing start, the hook melody, with eclectic instruments, is all-consuming. Galaxy-jumping, heart-pumping, and perfect. Truly.
The lyrics touch on genuine concerns that relate to those in relationships.
I'm on the run and your home alone...
I'm too consumed with my own life...
Are we too young for this?...
Sharing my heart is tearing me apart...
I've been confused as of late
Watching my youth slip away
These, among other lyrics, speak to the role one plays in a relationship. As a high schooler myself who is focusing on school and extra-curriculars, the worry of being so consumed with one's own life and responsibilities, not being able to maintain relationships (whether platonic or romantic) is so real. We work hard as teenagers to keep that balance between all aspects of our lives, which can be very challenging. Are we too young for these stresses, worries, stakes, and impacts that come with growing and being in love? Are we too young to put ourselves at risk of being hurt or heartbroken? We are all soft at our core.
Listen to this song on full volume with your eyes closed. Give it a chance. Trust me.
