Love's a fragile little flame.

The frustration that must come with the struggle of falling in love while being scrutinized for it in all directions...

I Know Places by Taylor Swift.

Sitting on Swift's fifth studio album, I found this song in my 2015 Apple Music Replay the other day (I told you I have always been a Swiftie). I had no choice but to use it for this week. It brought back so many memories and is simply a good song. The word seems so minimalistic these days.

I mean it, though. Whatever good means to you.

The star instrument in this piece is the snare drum, shining through in the drum line.

The lyrics convey the media and public as "vultures" and "hunters." I interpret this as a way of saying that love stories are hard to be successful with these nosy figures constantly working to destroy them, referring to them as predators of the personal life.

The title of the track is in reference to places where lovers can escape from this sabotage.

Swift sets up strong imagery of being in love in the public eye from the start with:

You stand with your hand on my waistline / It's a scene and we're out here in plain sight / I can hear them whisper as we pass by / It's a bad sign

From the beginning to end of the song, listeners may notice a strengthening of faith in the relationship from the narrator's perspective. The lyrics begin to finish with:

They take their shots, but we're bulletproof

Try to uncover some other metaphors in the piece! Taylor Swift is a genius with those.

If you click on the album cover below, you can listen or re-listen to "I Know Places" by Taylor Swift on YouTube. Still waiting on 1989 (Taylor's Version). Let me know thoughts, emotions, ideas, sparks, creations, or memories that come up while the instruments hum into your ears.

Warm regards,
Nai
